KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS COUNCIL 11424
SEPTEMBER 2006 NEWSLETTER
Our next meeting is on Sunday, September 17th, after 10am Mass.
The October meeting is on October 15th.
PAST EVENTS
KC BREAKFAST:
Our Knights of Columbus fundraising breakfast on August 27th was a great success. Over
$300 was raised as our Council hosted the parish to a tasty breakfast after Mass. Special
thanks to Council Lecturer Herb Snell and a cast of thousands who donated food, prepared
the meal, and cleaned up afterwards.
FAMILY OF THE MONTH:
Bill, Rhonda, Jason, and Jon Schalk were named as our Family of the Month for August.
Although Bill is not yet a Knight, we wanted to honor him and his family to recognize their
hard work on behalf of the entire parish. Bill has been working side by side with Knights
Jeff Templin, Bernie Switter, and Don Harrison on the renovation of the church offices and
classrooms. Bill and his wife Rhonda are active in church youth activities, and their sons
Jason and Jon are involved in the Boy Scouts and as alter servers. Congratulate Bill when
you see him and gently twist his arm about becoming a Knight!
UPCOMING EVENTS
MR DRIVE:
Our annual MR “Tootsie Roll” drive will be held on September 15, 16, and 17 at the Wal-
Mart and Bi-Lo stores in Dayton. Past Grand Knight and Trustee Dave Patterson is asking
for volunteers to assist in this annual fundraiser which benefits the MR Foundation of
Tennessee as well as the Rhea of Sunshine agency (which will augment our volunteers) in
Dayton. Please offer to help in this most worthy effort. Our goal is $1,600+.
FALL FAMILY PICNIC EXTRAVAGANZA:
Our Council’s annual Fall family picnic/bonfire/fireworks/clay pigeon shoot will occur in
October (date still to be determined) at the Patterson family compound near the Dayton
airport. This event (open to the entire parish, family, and friends) is a great opportunity for
fellowship. Ya’all come!
PARISH CHRISTMAS PARTY:
Another event which should be on everyone’s calendar is this year’s parish Christmas
party which will be held on December 16th. Our Council will host the party which will
include food, music, and a surprise visit by Mr. and Mrs. Claus. Stay tuned for more details
as they become available.
GRAND KNIGHT’S REPORT
15 brother knights, including District 13 Deputy Bill Markiewicz attended the Council 11424
monthly meeting on August 20th.
Brothers, after a great deal of prayerful thought, I’ve decided to fire myself as our
Council’s Membership Director. Quite frankly, I’ve done a miserable job these last three
years and should be replaced by someone willing to take on the important task of growing
our membership.
So here’s the deal: Either help me get new members for our Council by asking one of
your friends to join the Knights; or volunteer to replace me as Membership Director and
get to ask LOTS of your friends to join us. Either way is fine with me. But we really do need
to get serious about growing our Council. I’m asking each of you to speak to someone you
know who would make a good Knight and offer them the opportunity to become something
bigger than themselves.
We are all about service to others and having a good time while doing so. Please reach
out to your friends who may be ready to give something back to our church community
which serves them so well.
Very respectfully,
Doug Schott,
Grand Knight, Council 11424
St Bridget Church, Dayton, TN
