KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS COUNCIL 11424
OCTOBER 2006 NEWSLETTER
BIG: Our next meeting date has changed! It is now at 4pm on Saturday, October 21st, at the Council’s Fall Family
Bonfire/Fireworks/Picnic at the Patterson’s Ranch near Dayton.
The November meeting is on November 19th after 10am Mass.
PAST EVENTS
Our annual MR “Tootsie Roll” fundraising drive was held on September 15 and 16 at the Wal-Mart and Bi-Lo stores in
Dayton. Over $2,000 was raised (and we should be getting another $500 donation from Wal-Mart) for the MR
Foundation of Tennessee. Special thanks to Past Grand Knight and Trustee Dave Patterson for all his hard work in
coordinating the drive, and to all the volunteers who participated, including the Wolfe family who spent the whole
weekend in front of B-Lo and the Rhea of Sunshine agency which helped augment our volunteers.
UPCOMING EVENTS
ROAD CLEAN-UP:
Our Council will conduct its semi-annual highway clean-up this coming Saturday, Oct 7th in Dayton. Volunteers should
meet at Bimbos’ at 8am for a pre-event breakfast, or gather by the Highway 84 Lumber store on Highway 27 at 9am.
The clean-up should only take a couple hours, and event coordinator Herman Osborne can use all the help he can
get. Please join us in this worthy community project.
FALL FAMILY PICNIC EXTRAVAGANZA:
Our Council’s annual Fall family picnic/bonfire/fireworks/clay pigeon shoot will occur in October (date still to be
determined) at the Patterson family compound near the Dayton airport. This event (open to the entire parish, family,
and friends) is a great opportunity for fellowship. Ya’all come!
KC BREAKFAST:
Our next Knights of Columbus fundraising breakfast will be held on November 15th. Council Lecturer Herb Snell
needs volunteers to help with donated food, preparing the meal, and cleaning up afterwards. We raised $300 last
time, and the fellowship was priceless.
PARISH CHRISTMAS PARTY:
Another event which should be on everyone’s calendar is this year’s parish Christmas party which will be held on
December 16th. Our Council will host the party which will include food, music, and a surprise visit by Mr. and Mrs.
Claus. Stay tuned for more details as they become available.
GRAND KNIGHT’S REPORT
13 brother knights attended the Council 11424 monthly meeting on September 17th.
It was great to be able to meet in the newly renovated Family Life Center first floor area. Many thanks to Brothers Bernie
Switter, Jeff Templin, Don Harrision, as well as Bill Schalk who worked so hard to transform the space into its present
form.
I also want to thank everyone who volunteered to help with this year’s MR Drive. We were blessed with good weather
and had help from Rhea of Sunshine whose “clients” helped remind the community of why we were raising the money.
Although the number of volunteers was down this year, we still managed to bring in over $2,000 for the MR Foundation
of Tennessee. If you were unable to help with the MR Drive, please offer to help in some of our other upcoming events.
Very respectfully,
Doug Schott,
Grand Knight, Council 11424
St Bridget Church, Dayton, TN
