KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS COUNCIL 11424
OCTOBER 2007 NEWSLETTER
Our next meeting will be held on October 21st after the 10am Mass.
The November meeting will be on November 18th.
PAST EVENTS
FALL FAMILY PICNIC:
Our fall Family Picnic/Bonfire/Fireworks extravaganza was held on Saturday,
September 29th at Past Grand Knight Dave Patterson’s home (“the
compound”) near Dayton. This potluck picnic was a blast (literally!), as
shotguns were fired at clay pigeons and fireworks went up into the night sky.
The food was great and the fellowship was wonderful. Special thanks to all of
the Patterson clan (see the two announcements below) who worked so hard to
make us all feel welcome.
CAMP COLUMBUS PICNIC:
Our area’s KofC insurance Field Agent, Brother Dan Schachle, sponsored the
first Columbus Day family picnic at the Camp Columbus campground near
Chattanooga on October 6. Several Brother Knights and family members from
our Council attended. The food (especially the BBQ!) was good and everyone
enjoyed the opportunity to be with people from other Chattanooga area
Councils. Thanks to Brother Knight Don Harrison who provided enough
coleslaw to feed an army!
CORPORATE COMMUNION:
Our Council observed a Corporate Communion on October 7th, with 14
Brother Knights sitting as
a group during Mass and performing most of the various laity duties (greeters,
lectors, alter server, ushers, Special Ministers of the Eucharist) > and one
special Knight (Father Sam) celebrating the Mass while “making a joyful noise
unto the Lord.”
KNIGHT OF THE MONTH:
Council Chancellor and Webmaster Bob Patterson was named Council 11424
Knight of the Month for September in recognition of his hard work setting up
for our Council’s Family “Extravaganza” at his parent’s place on September
29th. Bob’s clay pigeon shooting event was especially popular as was the time-
honored bonfire he set up for late evening story swapping. Congrats Bob!
FAMILY OF THE MONTH:
Not to be outdone, the family of Past Grand Knight Dave Patterson and his
lovely wife Carolyn was named Family of the Month for September for hosting
the Fall Family Day event mentioned above. This was the 5th year in a row
that the Patterson’s have provided their outstanding venue for an event now
looked forward to by the entire St. Bridget Church community.
UPCOMING EVENTS
2nd DEGREE EXEMPLIFICATION:
A 2nd Degree exemplification is scheduled for October 14th. Plan on going

Order.
MR DRIVE:
This year’s MR “Tootsie Roll” Drive fundraiser is scheduled on Friday, October
12th (the real Columbus Day!) and Saturday the 13th at the Wal-Mart in
Dayton. Our Council’s MR Program Director Don Harrison is coordinating this
worthy fundraiser and will need all the volunteers (family and friends are
welcome to participate) he can get to ensure coverage during the drive. All
funds received benefit those with intellectual disabilities in Tennessee
including the Rhea of Sunshine agency in Dayton which serves 52 special
needs clients in our 8-county area.
Please contact Don (365-0920) to offer your assistance, even if it is just for a
couple hours.

GRAND KNIGHT’S REPORT
14 Brother Knights attended the Council 11424 monthly meeting on
September 16th.
Thanks to everyone who participated in our recent Corporate Communion as
we demonstrated the second principle of the Order > Unity.
Now it is time for us to work together to demonstrate the second principle of
the Order > Charity.
PLEASE contact Don Harrison to offer your help during the upcoming MR
“Tootsie Roll” Drive fundraiser so we can help those who cannot help
themselves. Family members are welcome, too.
Vivat Jesus!
Very respectfully,
Doug Schott,
Grand Knight, Council 11424
St Bridget Church, Dayton, TN
