NOVEMBER 2007 NEWSLETTER

Our next meeting will be held on November 18th after the 10am Mass.
The December meeting will be on December 16th.

PAST EVENTS

MR DRIVE:

This year’s MR “Tootsie Roll” Drive fundraiser was conducted October 12th and 13th at the     Wal-Mart
SuperCenter store in Dayton.  20+ brother knights, friends, family members, and several Rhea of
Sunshine agency clients and staff members helped raise over $1,800 to benefit those with intellectual
disabilities in Tennessee.  The Dayton Wal-Mart will be adding an extra $500 to the total.  Special thanks
to Council MR Director Don Harrison for organizing this year’s MR Drive.

ANNIVERSARY DANCE:

Our Council’s 13th anniversary dance party was held on October 27th.  Over forty brother knights, friends,
and family members enjoyed an evening of good food, music, and fellowship.  The party also included a
silent auction which raised over $200 to support Council activities. The highlight of the evening was
watching our Pastor and Council Chaplain Father Sam Sturm show the ladies how to line dance!  It is
amazing what they teach in the seminary these days…  Past Grand Knight (and recovering Navy veteran)
Jim Connors coordinated this year’s event.  (See item below)

KNIGHT OF THE MONTH:

Council Director and Past Grand Knight Jim Connors was named Council 11424 Knight of the Month for
October in recognition of his hard work coordinating our Council’s 13th Anniversary dinner dance party at
the St. Bridget Church parish hall on October 27th.  Of course this was just   an excuse for Jim to get to
dance the night away, but the rest of us had fun, too.  Congrats Jim!

FAMILY OF THE MONTH:

The family of Council MR Director Don Harrison and his lovely wife Pat was named Council 11424 Family
of the Month for October for coordinating our annual MR “Tootsie Roll Drive” fundraiser.  They did a great
job scheduling shifts of volunteers for two days of interacting with the public.  The Harrisons also helped
make the first annual Camp Columbus family picnic (Sponsored by KofC Field Agent Dan Schachle) a
success by providing a bazillion gallons of awesome cole slaw for the assembled multitudes.
Congratulations Don and Pat!

UPCOMING EVENTS

BREAKFAST FUNDRAISER:

Our next Council-sponsored parish breakfast fundraiser is scheduled for November 11th after the 10am
Mass in the parish hall.  Please call event coordinator Ken Hitchcock (332-6277 or 892-8275) to offer to
help set up, cook, or clean up afterward.  Hey, this IS the Volunteer State, right?

PARISH CHRISTMAS PARTY:

The St. Bridget’s Council of Catholic Women (CCW) and our Knights Council will co-host this year’s
parish Christmas party on December 8th.  Be sure to get this on your family calendar.  This potluck
dinner party will include music from our local DJ and a visit from Santa and Mrs. Claus.

GRAND KNIGHT’S REPORT

13 Brother Knights attended the Council 11424 monthly meeting on October 21st.  Thanks to Past Grand
Knight Jim Connors for covering for me while I was in Texas visiting my Dad.

Thanks also to everyone who participated in our recent MR “Tootsie Roll” Drive fundraiser.  It was
wonderful to see the community support our efforts to raise money for Rhea of Sunshine which helps so
many special needs clients.  Don and Pat Harrison did a great job coordinating this most worthy event.

It was a joy to observe the recent installation of Fr. Sam Sturm as our new St. Bridget parish pastor.  He
brings energy, focus, and a great singing voice to our church community.  Now if we can just keep him
around for more than two years…

Finally, I can’t tell you how pleased I am to see some of our Council brothers stepping up and taking
charge of various Council activities.  If YOU would like to contribute a little time toward a worthy cause,
there are a couple areas where we could really use some help.

For example, we really need someone to coordinate our efforts to bring in new members.  I have a list of
prospects and would be happy to mentor anyone willing to take this on.  It won’t take a lot of time and its
importance cannot be overstated.  YOU can make a difference.

Similarly, the parish needs someone to coordinate the semi-annual clean-up of the exterior of the
church.  I’m thinking we could combine some Council adult leadership with youth group labor and pizza a
couple times a year and really help spiff the place up.  Would YOU like to lead this effort?

Vivat Jesus!

Very respectfully,

Doug Schott,
Grand Knight, Council 11424
St Bridget Church, Dayton, TN
