KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS COUNCIL 11424
APRIL 2008 NEWSLETTER

Our next meeting will be held on April 20th after the 10am Mass.
The May meeting will be on May 18th.

PAST EVENTS

EUCHARISTIC ADORATION:

Our Council led a parish night of Eucharistic Adoration from after the Saturday Vigil Mass on March
15th until the Palm Sunday Mass the following morning.  Brother Knights, family members, and other
parishioners participated in what we hope will become a tradition at St. Bridget’s.
Special thanks to Deacon Tom Kiefer and everyone who came to spend time with the Lord.

HOLY THURSDAY VIGIL:

Council Chaplain Father Sam Sturm led a one-hour Eucharistic Adoration after the Holy Thursday
processing out of the Sacrament as part of our parish Holy Week activities.  At least ten Brother
Knights plus their family members participated in this quiet period of respect and reflection.

MEMBERSHIP BLITZ:

The Council conducted a membership recruiting “blitz” on March 30th before and after Mass to offer
prospective members information about the Order.  Membership Director Frank Kartz and Grand
Knight Doug Schott greeted people on behalf of the Council.  Special thanks to our visiting priest,
Father Ray, for saying some kind words about the Knights from the pulpit to help support  the “blitz.”
We now have four new prospects considering joining our ranks in addition to the three candidates we
have for the upcoming 1st Degree.  (see below)

BANNER SALES:

Our Council has had its first “customers” in our effort to share the council banner marketing concept
with other councils and KofC organizations.  We have now sold three banners > one to Council
#3537 in Clarksville, and two to the local KofC insurance regional rep.  The funds raised have now
paid for our own banner (bought last year), and it is likely that future sales will enable the Council to
purchase several “wish list” items that we have wanted for a long time.

MORALE SHIPMENT:

Council Webmaster Bob Patterson recently sent off five boxes of donated goods to a military unit in
Iraq as our latest Council-sponsored troop “morale shipment.”  Special thanks to Brother Bob and
everyone who donated items to those who so bravely defend our freedoms overseas.

SUPPORT TO RHEA OF SUNSHINE:

Several Brother Knights were present on April 7th as Grand Knight Doug Schott presented a check
for $1,111.11 to the Rhea of Sunshine agency in Dayton on behalf of the MR Foundation of
Tennessee.  The money was raised last fall during our Council’s annual “Tootsie-Roll” drive at the
Dayton Wal-Mart to benefit those with intellectual disabilities.
UPCOMING EVENTS

FIRST DEGREE EXEMPLIFICATION:

Our Council may have as many as three candidates for the First Degree exemplification scheduled
for April 13th at 2pm at Council 6099 in Chattanooga.  All Council members are invited to join a
group from our Council who will be departing the St. Bridget Church parking lot at 12:45 to go to this
important event.  Please join us as we show solidarity with our new Brother Knights.

STATE CONVENTION:

Council Financial Secretary Frank Szot and Grand Knight Doug Schott will represent the Council at
the Tennessee State Convention in Nashville (Franklin) April 25-27.

2008/2009 FRATERNAL YEAR COUNCIL OFFICER ELECTIONS:

July 1st will be here before we know it, and it is important that we decide who will lead the Council in
the upcoming fraternal year.  Nominations for our various elected leadership positions will be
determined at our April meeting, with elections scheduled for the May meeting, and installation of new
officers in June.
FRATERNAL FINANCIAL PLANNING DINNER:
Our council will host a parish financial planning seminar and spaghetti dinner at St. Bridget’s on June
7th after the Vigil Mass.  Our local KofC insurance field agent, Dan Schachle, will lead discussions on
retirement income/savings planning, long term health care, estate planning, and other insurance
products.  We are also trying to get an attorney and an income tax planning expert to attend as well.
More information will be forthcoming as it becomes available.

GRAND KNIGHT’S REPORT

19 Brother Knights attended the Council 11424 monthly meeting on March 16th.

It was a pleasure to announce Brother Herman Osborne as our Council’s Knight of the Month
honoree for February, as well as the Frank Szot family (wife Barbara) as the Family of the Month for
February.  Both of these Brothers continue to support a variety of Council activities and exemplify
what the Order is all about > service to others.  Congrats, gentlemen!

I urge everyone to participate in the upcoming nomination/election process for Council officers for the
next fraternal year.  Remember, if you don’t vote, you don’t have a right to complain later!

Vivat Jesus!
Very respectfully,

Doug Schott,
Grand Knight, Council 11424
St Bridget Church, Dayton, TN
