PAST EVENTS

THIRD DEGREE EXEMPLIFICATION:

Brother Knights Frank Kartz, Mauri Schmoll, Chris Hill, Aaron Mowery, and Colin Patterson went through
their 3rd Degree on September 13th at Council 610 in Chattanooga.  Five other brothers from our
Council attended as observers of the Degree, including Colin’s grandfather Dave Patterson and Colin’s
father Bob who assisted in the knighting ceremony.  Three generations of Pattersons have now
completed their journey to full knighthood in the Order.   Congrats, guys!

KNIGHTS OF THE MONTH:

St. Bridget Church pastor, Fr. Sam Sturm, was named as our Council’s Knight of the Month for July in
recognition of his leadership of the parish.  A 3rd Degree Knight and Chaplain of our Council, Father Sam
recently celebrated his first year anniversary as our pastor.   Congrats, Father Sam!

Council Vocations Chairman Tony Gervolino was named as our Council’s Knight of the Month for August
in recognition of his many contributions to numerous parish, youth, and church programs.  Tony
coordinates lectors and Eucharistic Ministers before Mass, and cleans the sacramental containers
afterwards.  Tony also teaches RCIA classes and is a great cook > his spaghetti dinner for our Council
Fraternal Benefits Night this past spring was delicious.   Congrats, Tony!

UPCOMING EVENTS

FIRST DEGREE EXEMPLIFICATION:

Clinton Morgan from our parish will be going through his 1st Degree at 7pm on October 6th (we hope…
the one scheduled for September was canceled) at Council 6099 in Chattanooga.  We will depart from the
St. Bridget Church parking lot at 5:45pm.  Please join us.

ANNUAL MR DRIVE:

As this goes to press, our annual MR Foundation “Tootsie Roll” Drive is scheduled for September 26th
and 27th at the Wal-Mart and the ShopRite in Dayton.  Volunteers will be needed to make this a success.
So, please contact MR Director Don Harrison to offer your services.  This is our biggest fundraiser of the
year and benefits the Rhea of Sunshine agency in Dayton.

FALL FAMILY PICNIC EXTRAVAGANZA:

This year’s big bash at the Patterson’s will be held on October 4th.  This potluck picnic is open to the
parish, friends, and visitors and begins at 4pm for those who enjoy shooting at (and sometimes hitting…)
clay pigeons.  Good food (and an adult beverage or two…), fellowship, a bonfire, and fireworks all make
this a fun time for all.  You don’t want to miss this one!

CORPORATE COMMUNION:

Our Council will celebrate Columbus Day with a Corporate Communion on October 12th at the 10am
Mass at St. Bridget’s.  Brother knights should sit as a group in the front 3 pews on the left side of the
church.  Please volunteer to perform all lay functions (greeters, lectors, Eucharistic ministers, ushers,
etc.) for this special Mass.

COLUMBUS DAY PICNIC:

Tennessee state General Agent Dan Schachle is hosting the second annual Columbus Day Picnic at
Camp Columbus in Hixson on October 12th.  This free family event gives us an opportunity to mingle with
brother knights from other area councils.  The BBQ is awesome!  Don’t miss it.

SECOND DEGREE EXEMPLIFICATION:

A 2nd Degree is scheduled for October 19th at Holy Spirit in Soddy-Daisy.  More details to follow.

MEMBERSHIP BLITZ:

Our Council will conduct a membership “blitz” before and after 10am Mass on October 26th at    St.
Bridget’s.  Council Membership Director Frank Kartz will need volunteers to help man our information
table outside of church.  If you know of a Catholic gentleman who might enjoy learning more about the
Order, please introduce him to the guys at the table.

CHURCH CLEAN-UP DAY:

A church exterior clean-up day is tentatively scheduled for November 15th.  Council Deputy Grand Knight
Bob Patterson will be coordinating this event which enables parish youth to contribute a few hours of
labor spiffing up the church grounds.

GRAND KNIGHT’S REPORT

22 Brother Knights attended the Council 11424 monthly meeting on September 21st.
This is a new attendance record for our Council.

It was an honor to observe five of our brother knights go through their 3rd Degree exemplification in
Chattanooga on September 13th.  This was the largest group from our Council to do so since the original
founding members went through 14 years ago. Counting the five observers from our Council we had ten
brothers at the Degree  > not bad for a little Council in Dayton, Tennessee!

Vivat Jesus!

Very respectfully,

Doug Schott,
Grand Knight, Council 11424
St. Bridget Church, Dayton, TN
