KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS COUNCIL 11424
DECEMBER 2008 NEWSLETTER
Our next meeting will be held on December 21st after the 10am Mass.
The January meeting will be on January 18th.
PAST EVENTS
CHURCH CLEAN-UP DAY:
The second phase of our St. Bridget Church exterior clean-up effort was held on
November 15th. Council Deputy Grand Knight Bob Patterson coordinated this event
which enabled parish youth to contribute a few hours of labor whacking bushes and
cleaning up the church grounds. Thanks Bob, and all the volunteers who helped!
PARISH CHRISTMAS PARTY:
Our Council sponsored the St. Bridget parish Christmas party on December 6th. The
pot luck dinner was great, and we all got to “sing-a-long” as pastor Fr. Sam Sturm led
us in his newly revised Christmas carols and a few renditions of our favorite classics.
After the carols we enjoyed dancing to music from our favorite DJ, Brother Jan
Rodriguez, while the “silent auction” provided a great opportunity for the party faithful
to get in a little Christmas shopping. Oh, almost forgot > Santa made an appearance to
give out a few presents to all the good boys and girls. Special thanks to Past Grand
Knight Jim Connors who coordinated the event, and all the ladies who decorated the
parish hall and prepared the food.
COUNCIL DONATIONS:
Our Council contributed $300 to St. Bridget Church for the purpose of helping pay for
the beautiful new church hymnals. The Council also helped the parish Council of
Catholic Women (CCW) chapter procure a special 50th wedding anniversary gift for
Deacon Tom and Mary Ann Kiefer.
UPCOMING EVENTS
BREAKFAST FUNDRAISER:
Our next Council breakfast fundraiser is on December 14th after the 10am Mass.
Council Warden Ken Hitchcock is coordinating the event, and would appreciate any
food donations as well as volunteers to set up, cook, and clean up after the breakfast.
Remember, our breakfasts are always open to the parish and friends.
MID-YEAR MEETING:
The Tennessee State Council Mid-Year meeting will be held in Nashville on Saturday,
January 17th. Any Council members who would like to attend should contact Grand
Knight Doug Schott.
CORPORATE COMMUNION:
Our next Council Corporate Communion is scheduled for the 10am Mass on January
18th, and will be held in conjunction with the parish chapter of the CCW.
COUNCIL AUDIT:
Our semi-annual Council audit is tentatively scheduled for January 20th in Dayton. Any
Council member who would like to observe the audit should contact Grand Knight
Doug Schott.
SUPER BOWL PARTY:
The Council Super bowl party will be held at the parish hall on February 1st. This is
always a fun, family event, so plan on attending > bring a friend.
THIRD DEGREE EXEMPLIFICATION:
A 3rd Degree is scheduled for February 21st at 9am at Council 6099 in Chattanooga.
We hope to get Brother Knights Gary Morgan and Clinton Morgan through their 3rd
Degree then, with many Council members along to show FRATERNITY.
GRAND KNIGHT’S REPORT
23 Brother Knights attended the Council 11424 monthly meeting on November 16th.
Reminder: We sent out a notice regarding 2009 membership dues ($40) to ensure that
everyone can get the “early bird” rate of $35 if they pay their dues between now and
the end of the Super Bowl party on February 1st. So far over half the Council has
taken advantage of this good deal.
This year has really flown by, as our Council continues to grow and participate in a
wide variety of events in support of family, church, community, clergy, and youth.
Thank you all for making our little group of “Catholic gentlemen” an important part of
our parish community.
